ZANESVILLE, OH – Muskingum University is getting ready to host their 3rd annual Older Adult Health and Wellness Fair.

Kim Lawler, the Program Director for the Master of Occupational Therapy Program, says the Wellness Fair is for adults 65 years and older who are looking to stay in their own homes as they age.

She says some of her students as well as representatives from the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex and the Area Agency on Aging Region 9 will be on hand to answer questions and share some helpful tips to attendees.

“It’ll all be very interactive and engaging, they’ll be working with the students while they are there. They’re not just going to be sitting and listening, so that makes it more fun.” Lawler said. “They’ll learn about ways to, things we’ve added this year are sleep and being healthy with sleep, because we hear that again and again in our everyday lives, we think about that. Ways to increase quantity and quality of sleep, that affects every other part of what they do during the day.”

Lawler says that the reason this Health and Wellness Fair has been so successful is because of the community.

She says the students also get so excited to plan new ideas and projects for the attendees to enjoy.

“I think that it engages the community and we find that the students get really excited about being able to work with people that come in to learn and it makes a difference in their lives.” Lawler said. “That engagement and the interaction is what really I think is the secret to it, everybody comes with, students are learning but also all of the participants are learning at the same time, so it’s a win, win.”

The Older Adult Health and Wellness Fair will take place at Muskingum University in Caldwell Hall on Saturday, March 7th from 11 AM until Noon.
