NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Lilly has been serving as the university’s president since July 1 but today marked the formal inauguration. Flav understands what Muskingum has meant to this region, and he is already bringing people together to imagine what it can mean for the students and the community for tomorrow,” Cheryl Carpenter, chair of the Muskingum University Board of Trustees.
Lilly’s presidency follows that of Susan S. Hasseler, who retired from the position after 10 years at the helm. Lilly referenced the the universities strength a Ohio’s top-ranks university for value and 2nd best for the state for social mobility. He also laid out his priorities as president.
“First, we will restore Muskingum to financial sustainability. We will make some difficult choices. Invest where we see opportunity and focus our resources on the work
that matters most. Second, we will expand access and strengthen student success. We will serve traditional undergraduate graduates and adult learners and people returning to education throughout their lives. And we will make sure our students are not just enrolled here, but known, supported, and given meaningful opportunities to apply what they’re learning,” Lilly said.
One of the announcements Lilly made during the ceremony was that efforts are being made to bring back the Muskingum University Marching Band. Muskingum University’s Homecoming Weekend continues through Sunday.
