Muskingum Valley Garden Preparing for a New Look
The Muskingum Valley Garden Society is preparing its downtown planters for the Christmas season.
The group spent yesterday and today removing summer plants from the planters around downtown Zanesville. The pots will later be replaced with Christmas greens. The plants removed are taken to the city yard in order to be composed. Downtown plant project coordinator Darlene Turner explains their plans for the planters.
"We had about 12 people last night that came down, and we’re cutting back the plants right to the soil level. And then we’ll be putting greenery in there for the Christmas season and then we are also going to be doing the y bridge, with a swag on each of the poles this year."
The downtown planters can be found on Main Street and on Fifth Street in Zanesville. There are also planters in front of Ditty’s downtown deli and at the Sixth street bridge. The group hopes to expand its project by adding to the larger pots and putting planters on Fourth Street and on Sixth Street.
"We have been together now for 10 years on this downtown project and we’re hoping to get another 10 years downtown with the city and it’s cooperation. We appreciate the help from the Chamber of Commerce this year and also the downtown businesses here to contribute here to our project."
