ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Candy, costumes, and decorations are showing up in stores which means it’s almost time for trick-or-treating.

The Muskingum Valley Park District is gearing up for the Halloween season with their annual Trail of Treats which will take place Oct. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the Collegial Woods. The park district is inviting organizations from the community to take part and hand out candy.

“One of the things that we do is we ask area non-profits and businesses to basically partner with us and set up a tent here along the trail and hand out trick-or-treat candy,” said Russell Edgington, the executive director of the Muskingum Valley Park District. “And it’s a really good time, it’s only a two hour commitment in October and it really makes for a lot of fine fun family entertainment. ”

At the moment, 16 organizations have signed up for the Trail of Treats with plenty of room on the trail for more. If your interested you can call the 740-455-8237 or register online at the Muskingum Valley Park District’s website.

“This ones a lot of fun. I mean it is hard work organizing and setting up for the evening but when you get to see the smiling faces on the kids as they come through and I’m always impressed with how good the parents are. You know, asking the children to say please and thank you so it’s just really a heartfelt and warm program,” Edgington said.

Those who set up a tent are encouraged to dress up and decorate their tent as well as bring around 1,500 pieces of candy to hand out.
