MVHC: Basketball Players of the Game (Monday, March 16)

MVHC Basketball
ZANESVILLE, OH – We are down to the “Final Four” stage of the high school basketball season, and two local area teams are among the final twenty still standing across all five divisions.
Representing Maysville and West Muskingum, we take a look at which players from each school shined the brightest in the playoffs last week with our “MVHC” Players of the Game!
In a game broadcasted on z92 radio was the Division IV regional semifinal on Wednesday night, which pitted Maysville against fellow Muskingum Valley League school John Glenn. It didn’t take long for the Panthers to get rolling, running away for the 71-35 win. Gator Nichols poured in 34 points, including a first quarter basket to plant him at the top of the Maysville all-time scoring record.
Meanwhile Highway 103 had a different game entirely. West Muskingum had to scratch and claw for 32 minutes, plus an extra four, defeating St. Clairsville in a 59-57 overtime thriller.
The man of the moment was sophomore guard Noah Morrison, who’s historic buzzer beater gave the Tornadoes the first regional semifinal win in program history.
Two games on one day, in once place? Z92 had you covered on Saturday where each team competed in the regional final round. Maysville was up first in a battle with Circleville, and Jordyn Watson picked a good time to have his best performance in recent memory. Four of his five threes came in the first half to keep the Panthers in it, before pulling away in the second half for a third straight “Final Four” appearance.
When the Tornadoes took the floor at “The Convo” in Athens, they already made history, reaching the elite eight. 32 game minutes later, West Muskingum did it again.
For the second time in a week, Noah Morrison claimed Player of the Game honors, leading the way in the clutch on offense and defense, en route to a game-high 15 points, and a trip to Dayton for a state semifinal game.
Congratulations to all three athletes.
