MVHC: Players of the Game – Week One

MVHC

ZANESVILLE, OH – The 2026 high school football season got off to quite a start in week one, with local area teams and players taking center stage to kick it all off. The start of a brand new season brings the return of the “MVHC” Players of the Game from our week one games on our radio stations.

AM 1240 saw Zanesville’s 26-game losing streak finally come to an end with a 30-13 week one victory over Maysville. It had been a long time coming for Zach Clapper and the Blue Devils, who were led by junior quarterback Kason Hazlett’s touchdown run and three two-point conversions to help end the long drought.

Our game on Z92 saw one of the best from the Muskingum Valley League (MVL) face off with one of the top teams from the Licking County League (LCL), as Sheridan and Licking Valley renewed their annual week one battle. Despite the Panthers coming away with a 28-13 win, senior wide receiver James Solomon turned on the jets for a 66-yard touchdown reception.

It was an all-MVL affair on Highway 103, and Tri-Valley picked up right where it left off from the 2025 regular season, dispatching Meadowbrook for a 56-22 win. Multiple ‘Dawgs’ deserved the player of the game honor following the big win, though junior wide receiver Lucca Gargasz earned the recognition following a four touchdown week one performance.

Congratulations to all three athletes, and best of luck to all local area teams for the remainder of the season.
