MVHC: Players of the Game – Week Six

ZANESVILLE, OH – Week six in the books for high school football here in Ohio, and while we’ve seen some standout performances this season from local area athletes, these ones from Friday night might just take the cake as our latest “MVHC: Players of the Game”.

In a matchup featuring two alpha male programs on Z92 radio, New Lexington got the best of Tri-Valley with a three score win, staking its claim atop the ladder in the Muskingum Valley League for either division. A stellar linebacker for the Panthers, senior Tanner Toth flexed his muscle in every facet of the game, accounting for a touchdown reception, two-point conversion, while also blocking a punt for a safety in the week six win.

The crew from Highway 103 made its way to Morgan County for an MVL crossover matchup between Morgan and Sheridan, which saw the Generals win their fifth consecutive game. The book was out this season on the returning backfield stars of quarterback Tyce Whiteman and running back Logan Russell, though wide receiver Reed Parkison has really taken a step forward in his final year. The senior reeled in three touchdown catches in the Friday win, tying a school single game record.

No matter how you slice it, the Zanesville football team is more than exceeding expectations this season with a 4-2 record through week six. A big factor in Friday’s no doubt 37-12 win over Licking Heights was Maddox Mohler, who pulled off his best Abraham Lincoln impression with four scores on the ground. Mohler and the rest of his teammates will have to be at their best again week seven, aiming to score a win over Granville for the first time in program history.
