MVL Looking to Continue All-Star Winning Ways Over LCL
We talk with the MVL team, before the MVL vs LCL all-star game!
DRESDEN, OH
The MVL vs. LCL all-star game is just around the corner, and is a great way to show off our local high school talent one last time, with some athletes going off to play in college, and others playing their last game in pads ever. One of the biggest differences is that long time MVL opponents are now teammates.
“It’s weird, I’ll admit” says West Muskingum senior Wes Houston. “But like always, guys, I played a North-South game with. So like I said, I’ve got to bond with them and I was with guys that I would never speak to. Now I am kind to my friends and build it with them.”
While they are practicing to win, they are also trying to enjoy the moment, as it is the last game ever for many, including their head coach, who is switching from football coach to principal for Tri-Valley.
“It’s a cool opportunity for me, obviously. I stepped down as head coach and travel coach. (Josh) Wright has taken over” says MVL head coach Cameron West. “So this is my last game being head coach. So getting a chance to coach our seniors one more time is a really cool opportunity.”
West added that he agreed to coach the game back in December, and he didn’t think this would be his last game at the time, but “it’s definitely a weird feeling.”
Regardless of the feeling, there were expectations of success from the MVL players, as they have won the last three all-star games against the LCL.
Senior defensive end Chis Gargasz says, “I think we got a good group. We don’t really pay attention to the LCL, because the MVL is a bigger deal here. So i know that we got a lot of good guys. We got a good chance to win, so I think we can make it 4-0 here.”
The MVL all-stars will get the opportunity this Friday night at 7 pm from Licking Heights High School in Pataskala. You can tune into Z92 radio for coverage beginning at 6:30, and highlights of the action will be aired on FOX 5 at 10 pm and WHIZ at 11 pm later that night.
