MVL Votes “no” on Expansion
The principals of the Muskingum Valley League’s nine schools met Monday and voted down the possibility of expansion, league commissioner Scott Welker confirmed Tuesday.
“I looked around the room (Monday) and I’d say 90 percent of the administrators that were in the room were MVL individuals,” Welker said. “There’s a lot of tradition. A lot of people really enjoy the league the way it is and really enjoy the camraderie that we have.”
Two proposals were on the table: the first would add Meadowbrook as the league’s 10th team, and the second would add Cambridge, Coshocton and Meadowbrook with the league breaking into two divisions. The 10-team proposal was voted down by a 5-3-1 count, and the 12-team proposal was voted down by a 4-4-1 count. Seven votes are necessary for a proposal to pass.
Welker thinks the voting bodes well for the league’s stability moving forward.
“There’s obviously schools that would like to see expansion and schools that wouldn’t like to see expansion so I’d say we’ll continue to have those talks, but I don’t think anybody left (the meeting) upset,” he said.
