National Cyber Security Month

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The month of October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month and local libraries are prepared.
They are hosting a variety of programs to help people learn the importance of taking precautions while navigating the internet. Jeremy Norris, Emerging Technologies Assistant of the Muskingum County Library System, says a lot of people are not aware of some of the tactics that are being used to pull them in.
“A lot of the time while you’re on the internet there are people that are attempting to steal your identity. Be able to get any kind of information, to be able to steal your information and to be able to use it for financial reasons and all kinds of different things,” Norris said.
One of the classes that will circulate to all of the local library branches is called Safely Navigating the Internet. This is a free program for adults and will teach those in attendance how to avoid the different tricks on the internet.
“We are going to have some programs on cyber security to give people an idea of how to combat with cyber criminals and the different things that they try to do to bait people,” Norris said.
To find out more information about the programs and different classes, you can go to any of the local libraries and pick up the October Newsletter.
