National Road Yard Sales

Muskingum County- One of the nation’s longest yard sales is back and rolling right through our area this week.

What does a pickle jar, a porcelain doll, and an old school desk all have in common? They all might be sitting in someone’s front yard right now, and all for sale. Because the National Road Route 40 Yard Sale has officially begun! Stretching 824 miles across six states, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, the Historic National Road Yard Sale offers a treasure hunt like no other.

Here in Ohio, bargain hunters hit the pavement early, cash in hand and eyes peeled for deals. Vendors lined U.S. Route 40 with everything from vintage furniture and clothing to antique tools and one-of-a-kind collectibles.

I’d tell everybody to look for the weirdest thing at the yard sale. Because a normal microwave, you don’t want to buy.” explained bargain hunters Bob and Sherri Bethel. “If you have something weird that somebody left over from 30 years ago, that’s probably worth money now. So, we always say find the strangest thing at the yard sale and it’s probably the one that’s most profitable.”

People have traveled from all over just to take part. And if you’re hoping to find your own hidden gem, you’re in luck. The yard sale runs through Saturday, May 31st.
