National Senior Health and Fitness Day is May 25th

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The 23rd Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day is May 25th.

And this year’s theme is improve your “health for a better self.” The Muskingum Recreation Center will be celebrating National Senior Health and Fitness Day will a day filled with activities.

“9 a.m to 3 p.m. on May 25th, we are going to offer free senior group exercise classes,” said Muskingum Recreation Center Event and Program Manager Becky Weir. “Which will include land and water classes. 9:10 is a senior splash class with Stephani Needles, our instructor. And 10:10 also another senior splash class. We also have a land class at 10:10 which includes a full range of motion exercises in a chair.”

Seniors will have access to the rec’s exercise floor, senior exercise classes, speakers, health screenings, healthy snacks, and more.

“It just gets an awareness out there in the activate older adults are a huge population. They are probability more fit than even the 40s and 50s age range. They love to exercise. They love to be active. They love to be social. And it’s just a good way to get them interactive with each other too,” said Weir.

Weir said if you are interested in participating in national senior health and fitness day, simply stop by the rec center on May 25th between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
