ZANESVILLE, Ohio – On June 10, 2017 locals celebrated the 15 Annual Nelson T. Gant Foundation Birthday Brunch.

According to Nelson T. Gant the annual birthday celebration is not only to celebrate his 196 birthday, but to remember the struggles this community faced to become the Zanesville we live in today.

“You know there are many who have forgotten how this community worked together,” Gant said. “How we made it through some troubled times. How we’ve overcome some very difficult social problems and managed to turn it into a beautiful community that we have today.”

The guest speaker is Kitra Martin-Davis the author of ‘A Peace…For You’. Davis went with the theme ‘Continue to Pursue Your Dreams’ and talked to the guests about pursuing their dreams while also encouraging others around them to pursue theirs as well.

“It’s like a puzzle, we truly do fit together and it’s necessary for us to be able to lean on one another,” Davis said. “To be able to expect something from one another because again it helps to lift us up, but also helps to lift them up.”

Davis grew up in Zanesville but hasn’t lived in town since she left for college at the age of 18. With that she wanted the people to know that living in a small town doesn’t mean they do not have the same opportunities.

“The opportunities are endless no matter where you live, because there are always opportunities to help others and to also understand the importance of what God has given you in order for you to give to others,” said Davis.

The Nelson T. Gant Foundation was established in 2001 and the Gant house is located on 1845 West Main Street. For more information on the foundation check out nelsontgantfoundation.org
