Nelson T. Gant House Nears Completion
A project 11 years in the works is coming to a close in the coming months.
The Nelson T. Gant House restoration project has been a long journey. It began with removing all parts of the home that aren’t original which was a huge undertaking.
They then worked on the educational wing, a new roof, foundation repairs and much more but Thursday Secretary of the Board of the Nelson T. Gant Foundation Michael Jackson said they’re working on the last room to be renovated.
He said that it’s been a lot of work but they hope to open up to the public and begin giving back to the community with education and historical value,
“If you have a museum locally where people can come, it’ll get them thinking about their genealogy, their families, the community, what Zanesville was like back in the 1800’s and the early 1900’s which i’m a part of so their not necessarily that interested in it but if something like this gets them interested it’ll be great,” said Jackson.
The Gant Foundation also wants to remind the community about their annual Chili Fest. It’s just $6 for the meal that includes chili, a cookie, salad, and a drink, as well as a chance to meet with friends and catch up.
“The community comes together,” said Jackson. “We sit down. We just talk and reminisce and talk about the old days. ”
The Chili Fest will kick off next Friday with deliveries and Saturday at the Gant House. If you’d like to have chili delivered on Friday you can simply call t(740) 453-1157 by Wednesday of next week.
