ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Fieldhouse Family Sports and Wellness Center recently received a donation to help children with special needs.

Romney Garner created Romney’s Bike Drive to help kids that can’t afford a bike or something for special needs kids. Romney’s Bike Drive started three years ago and she has donated over 200 bikes for the first two years and this year she chose to donate to The Fieldhouse Foundation.

She has donated a check for $2,550 to The Fieldhouse Foundation that went towards purchasing a NuSTEP Tr4 bike that will provide a physical therapy opportunity. The Foundation was formed by Harriet Amicone nine years ago.

Fieldhouse CEO, Alainna Amicone Durfee said, “The Fieldhouse Sports and Recreation Center and The Fieldhouse Foundation, is incredibly blessed to have Regional and National sponsors who provide funding for therapeutic care for those who suffer from accidents, illnesses, and injuries and who have limited resources for ongoing care due to exhausting their medical benefits and insurance.”

Romney’s contribution is important to The Fieldhouse because it will jumpstart them with equipment that will help those children. The bike costs around $6,000 but because of numerous donations, the bike is ready for action.

Matthew Amicone, Doctorate of Physical Therapy Candidate said, “As the Fieldhouse becomes a more medically based facility, Physical Therapy equipment such as our two NuSTEP’s will assist us in serving our patients and clients, especially our Special Needs Community for children ages 3 to 21.”

Their hope with this bike is to help children and adults, amputees, cancer survivors, victims of accidents, illnesses or anyone who may need it.
