New Art at Zanesville Art Museum

New Art At Zanesville Art Museum

When Marine Doug Frates returned from a tour in Iraq he went to Vegas. When he returned with a grand he decided to spend it.

"I wanted to spend it on something memorable. Something that I had always been intrigued about and I just had no idea what it took so I took a class on it and it kind of stemmed into this," he said.

Frates began blowing glass in Arizona and then moved to Springfield, Ohio. This is the second time his art has been displayed.

"It feels good and it is fun and it is not so much for my end but the more I see people appreciating it that is really where I get my gratification from," he said.

Frates constantly thinks of colors and experimenting. This is similar to the other artist in the show.

Doug McLarty is the other artist at the show and not only does he bring a lot of color to the museum he also brings a new idea to the art world. Though the photos on the wall appear to be taken with a camera they are actually taken through a scanning process.

"Something triggered the idea and I bolted up literally one night in bed and I just yikes I think I have discovered something here," said McLarty.

Since 2006 the process has been working well and eh remains one of the only artists to use this technique even though it’s well received.

"The color and the depths of photography is just amazing. They’re almost life like. It is a 3 dimensional photograph," said viewer Don Wietmarschen.

Both artist’s work is on display through April.
