New Concord Swimming Pool Needs Replaced

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The New Concord Area Public Swimming Pool that was built in 1963, is nearing the end of its lifecycle and the village is taking measures to keep the facility open.
New Concord Mayor Jennifer Lyle explained that the pool has proven itself to be an asset to the community and has been operating thanks to a grant from the Straker Foundation along with an amazing village maintenance crew.
“Along with the funds for that feasibility study, the grant also covered some needed mechanical repairs that we had. Also, it allowed us to provide lifeguarding certification scholarships and swimming lessons to a number of young people in town,” Lyle said.
The pool that serves hundreds of people remains the center focus of summer events in the community and that other area swimming pools can’t offer the convenience that this facility offers.
Future plans of upgraded amenities include:
“This will have zero entry for sure. We would really like to have a splash pad, because that provides an additional kind of recreation that children really enjoy these days. There will be some lap swimming, one diving board and possibly a slide. All of this depends, we need to raise money for this,” Lyle said.
The village is seeking additional grant funding and will hold a third and final community engagement meeting later this spring.
