New Concord’s New Police Chief

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Village of New Concord has a new Chief of Police.
Mindy Peck will officially become the Chief of Police the first week of September. Chief Peck said she’s both excited and nervous for this next step in her career.
“I have a lot of support, I’ve met a lot of excellent police chiefs over the years, I know I’ll have help from other police agencies, and we have a great Sheriff in our community,” Peck said. “So I look forward to working with everybody. See what we can do to better improve our village, our police department, and move in the right direction.”
Chief Peck worked as a police officer in New Concord between 2013 and 2015. So she knew the community and has ideas of what it needs, but first she wants to hear from others.
“Within the first month I want to have a town hall meeting if possible,” Peck said. “To have people in the village come together and I want to hear from them. You know maybe they’re seeing things we’re not, I want their input. I want to know what they’d like to see done, because this is their community. They live here and we’re here to serve them and protect the public.”
Chief Peck is preparing to work with the New Concord Police officers to let the department and the officers grow further.
“I want to hear from [the officers], get some ideas from them, and see what they would like to see improve or change,” Peck said. “I don’t want this to be my police department, it’s ours. So it’s going to be a team and we’re going to do it together. I want to see how I can help them improve, maybe there’s some things they need to improve on, and get them the training they need.”
Following the interviewing process Peck was offered the position by the previous Chief of Police Trevor Hayes who resigned from the position May 2017. Peck will officially become Chief of Police on September 4, 2017.
