New Ideas for Local Library
The Muskingum County Library system has 5 areas to focus on in the new year. These areas will help better suit the community.
Blair Tom says the traditional model of a library is no longer relevant and it is not the model they are working towards. The new model will focus on technology, family literacy, partnership, funding and community service. A community focus group helped to decide these actions.
"They supported the 5 action steps and thought they were really important, but the exciting thing is they encouraged us to think and dream bigger" Blair Tom, Assistant Director.
Big changes the community can see will focus on family literacy rather than seperating adult and early childhood literacy. Then, in February, the library will offer downloadable music.
" We need to continue to have reading and literacy and those kind of materials and services available, but now we’re looking at how we can contribute to job skills, liberal arts, how we adapt to the new technology and partners so that we can be a relevant, efficient deliverer of necessary services" said Tom.
Tom also feels the library will be an important place where creativity can occur.
