New Muskingum County Jail is Beginning to Take Shape

ZANESVILLE, OH – The new Muskingum County Jail is beginning to take shape… literally.

County Commissioners met with the county administrator to review the construction phase of the project. Down on Pershing Road, walls are up, and more are being put in place, marking a major milestone for the future facility. The jail is designed to bring more space, safety, and efficiency to Muskingum County.

“If you haven’t driven by, there’s a lot of walls going up right now. The jail is basically divided into 4 sections, two of the bigger sections are called ‘C’ and ‘D’. C’s walls are almost completely finished right now. They’re setting the roof trusses and decking. So, if you haven’t been by, it’s an exciting happening place right now and it’s really starting to take shape.” County Administrator, Kade Haddox said.

The project remains on schedule, with completion expected in August of 2027. Leaders say they’re committed to staying on track and within budget as construction moves forward.

“We’re going to continue to make sure the construction crews are staying safe on site, and that we’re staying on target, and really staying within budget that way the money’s being spent responsibly and on what it was anticipated for.” Haddox said.

When finished, the jail project will cost between $80 and $90 million.
