Newark Awarded $2 million Grant
The city of Newark is receiving a $2 million grant to conduct remediation and demolition at the former Newark Processing Company.
Beginning in 1980, Newark Processing operated an aluminum recycling facility that processed aluminum dross, which is the source of the site’s contamination.
The grant is from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund, which awarded $28 million in grants Friday for clean-up projects around the state. The Ohio Department of Development believes revitalizing idle commercial and industrial properties will create more than 1400 jobs.
Upon completion of the clean-up at Newark Processing, Newark plans to turn the site into an alternative energy production facility.
