Newark Police Investigate Fatal Accident at Walmart

Newark Police are investigating the death of a woman who was struck by a car in a Walmart parking lot.

It happened at 1315 N. 21st Street around 11:45 a.m. Friday.

Police say when officers arrived on the scene they found 76-year-old Carol Jones of Newark deceased.

Police say she was struck by a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Robert Shook of Newark.

Authorities say Shook was observed speeding in reverse through the parking lot of Walmart before striking Jones and then other parked vehicles. Shook had a passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Marcie Shook of Newark.

Police say Shook was taken into custody and then transported to OSU Medical Center.

The case remains under investigation.
