Newark Police: Suspicious Package Not a Threat

Newarkchief

Newark Police Chief Barry Connell says a suspicious package found outside of police headquarters has been determined to not be a threat. Chief Connell says the package was noticed by Newark Police Department employees early Thursday morning. As a result the police department and nearby businesses were evacuated for safety precautions. The Columbus Fire Department Bomb Squad arrived on scene and determined the package was not a threat.

Police say the package was found by a citizen and dropped off in front of the department as found property. Chief Connell says if the public would like to drop off found property after normal business hours contact the non-emergency line 740-670-7200 so an officer can be dispatched to the department.
