Newark Police Seek Suspect in Shooting
The Newark Police Department is seeking the public’s help locating a suspect following a shooting on Wednesday.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Newark police officers and detectives responded to the area of Webb Street near Washington Street in reference to the shooting. The victim was located near the intersection of Washington and South Cedar Streets, having walked to the residence of an acquaintance after the shooting.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Shayway Hales of South Napoleon Avenue in Columbus who was wounded with a single gunshot to the left arm. His injuries did not appear life threatening, but after being transported to Licking Memorial, he was later transferred by helicopter to Grant Hospital.
The suspect is described as light-skinned black male, mid-twenties, approximately six feet tall, with a thin build. He was reported to have been in a mid-size four-door car which was silver or platinum in color.
