Northpointe to see Speed Reduction
Northpointe Drive will see a speed limit reduction this week.
Northpointe from State Rt. 146 to Brandywine Boulevard will be decreased to 35 miles per hour beginning this week after a traffic order was passed at City Council. Public Safety Director Fred Buck said the lower speed limit is the best way to cut down on traffic accidents. 31 crashes have been reported in the last two years.
“The biggest problem is, that’s a lot of accidents for one area,” said Buck. “We’ve looked at it. We’ve sat out there. We’ve put up speed cameras, looked at that and this seems to be the easiest way.”
The speed limit change will be monitored for the next 4 to 6 months to measure whether or not it is an effective way to make the roadway safer for drivers both traveling on Northpointe and entering the road from Military Road. If it doesn’t prove effective, the city will look into other options.
