Oakfield Baptist Church Celebrates 200 Years

A Perry County Church reached a new milestone today.
When the Oakfield Baptist Church opened its doors James Madison was President of the United States. Church members feel blessed to be celebrating the churches 200th anniversary. The church was organized in 1814 and they built a church in 1860. That is the same church that stands today. Pastor Scott Johnston is pleased with the amount of people who came back to celebrate today.
"Well, today is our 200th year anniversary, the church was founded only 38 years after the american revolution and the church has been going strong since then. And, we’ve have former pastors come back, we’ve had families travel from Texas to come up here for this and so it’s been a full morning of singing and preaching and now, eating. "
The church holds services every Sunday, and also lends a hand by helping the area food banks, collecting clothes for young children and much more. Former pastor Bob Woodrun says that the church has been a continuous family, but there is one particular family that stands out the most.
"The Holcomb family, basically is the oldest family from the church. One of our Holcomb ladies is 89 and has been here ever since, every Sunday, since that time. "
The Church currently has 34 active members and an average attendance of 54 people every Sunday.
