ODOT Prepares For Winter Storm

Odot

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-The projected imminent snowfall has the Ohio Department of Transportation preparing for weather.

County Manager Phil Valentine does not expect the storm to be debilitating. He says his workers will treat it as a routine event.

“It looks like we’ll be doing a lot of plowing. We’ll basically be knocking snow off to the side of the road, treating it with salt. We also use liquids and stuff with our salt. It helps speed up the chemical reaction of the salt so it starts working a lot faster. We probably won’t use anything like bead for this storm. It’ll be a lot warmer so we don’t expect a lot of accumulation on the road, but we expect it to be a pretty slushy storm.”, Valentine told WHIZ.

If you are a motorist during ODOT’s working hours there are suggestions for you to follow to maintain safety for the employees.

“They could leave early in the morning. We kind of expect this event to be slushy come daylight time. When everyone is doing their morning commute they should plan to slow down, it’s the first event of the year. When they come across one of our drivers, stay back away from them, give them some space to work. It’s our first time out this season too.”

The storm is expected to take place through Tuesday morning.
