ZANESVILLE, OH – The Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing for potential winter weather and advising Ohio residents on how to safely navigate any upcoming snowstorms.

ODOT’s preparation includes readying their snowplows and ensuring plenty of road salt to tackle snow and ice on the roads. The department’s staff are prepared to respond quickly to winter weather, aiming to keep the roads as safe as possible.

“Our crews rest up when we know winter weather is coming. They will load all their trucks and when they’re ready to bring crews in, the trucks are already loaded. Our men and women get in the trucks and get out the door. It’s about making sure we’re prepped and stacked up and ready to go. Which at this point, we are. Now, we just wait on that winter weather to hit.” ODOT Press Secretary, Matt Bruning said.

For Ohio Drivers, ODOT recommends that motorists equip their vehicles with winter essentials such as blankets, water, a flashlight, and a first aid kit. ODOT also advises residents to prepare for potentially slower travel.

“It’s very likely that if you’re driving Friday morning, you will see snow covered roadways. That means you’re going to have to slow down and you’re going to have to allow extra time. So, if it took you 15 minutes to get to work on Thursday morning, I would double, if not triple, that on Friday. It’s going to take you longer. If you can stay off the roads, that would be great.” Bruning said.B
