ODOT Sunday PM Update

A total of 240 ODOT crews are treating and plowing interstates, state and US routes in 15 Central Ohio counties. That number will stay the same headed into the overnight hours. Here’s where we are:
- Road conditions are improving and many lanes are clear, but there’s still a lot of clean up work to do including ramps and berms
- Bitterly cold temperatures and windy conditions are the biggest challenge headed into Sunday night
- Crews are still dealing with blowing and drifting snow, especially in our outlying counties in rural areas
- In addition to plowing, snow plow operators are applying salt and de-icing liquids
- Instead of brine, ODOT is using calcium chloride and beet juice since those are more effective in colder temepratures
- Drivers should keep in mind that wet roadways could be icy and use caution, particularly on ramps and bridges
- Crews are still working 12-hour shifts to keep you safe – please respect the plows and give them room to do their job
