CAMBRIDGE, Ohio- The Cambridge Fire Department are searching for the cause of a fire that destroyed a downtown restaurant.
Chief Jeff Deeks said it happened just before 8:30 p.m Tuesday night at the Courtside Deli at 117 West 8th Street next to the Guernsey County Courthouse.
“We roughly got here around 8:20 last night. When we left the scene it was around 4 o’ clock in the morning. We left a couple units down here to remain and hit the hot spots. We’re just trying to get a rotation on our guys just to save the wear and tear on them. The next steps we’re going to do is we are going to get with the state fire marshall work with him as closely as we can. And depending on what the insurance company deems with building we will just go from there on the next steps” said Deeks.
Deeks said they had help from Byesville and Cassell volunteer fire departments, who were on scene last night to make sure the fire did not spread to adjacent buildings.
“We made the stop right there. That’s where we made our stand to keep the fire from spreading, because we did have residents living on the second floor on this building. No one was injured during this fire including fire personnel,” Deeks.
One person was evacuated from an upstairs apartment in that building.
