Ohio Department of Commerce Urges Ohioans to Check for Unclaimed Funds
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Unclaimed Funds wants to make sure you get every dollar that you work hard for.
This year the Division of Unclaimed Funds is trying to reconnect Ohioans to over $528 Million that went unclaimed last year.
Susie Wagner, the Outreach Supervisor of the Division of Unclaimed Funds, said that, according to Ohio Law, banks and businesses are required to report unclaimed funds each year.
“Even if they have nothing to report,” Wagner said. “They’re due November 1st, unless you’re an insurance company, in which case they’re due until May 1st.”
These unclaimed fund reports come from accounts that have been dormant since June 30th, 2024. The Division reports that they received over 90,790 filings for unclaimed funds last year.
“Even if you have discovered there’s no inactive, all of your accounts are active, and there’s no unclaimed funds to report,” Wagner explained. “You still need to file an unclaimed funds report, it’s called a None or a Zero report.”
If you think you have some unclaimed funds, you can head to com.ohio.gov/reportfunds to check and see.
Due to a system upgrade planned for sometime in 2025, this will be the last year the Division of Unclaimed Funds accepts paper reports.
