ZANESVILLE, Ohio- An Ohio organization aims to honor fallen soldiers this weekend from June 9th to the 11th.

Ohio Flags of Honor travels around Ohio with a memorial of flags for Ohio servicemen and woman who have fallen in the war of Iraq and Afghanistan. President, Gino Zimmer, explained he founded the organization when tragedy struck close to home.

“Ohio Flags of Honor started shortly after my son was killed in action on May 30th, 2004. We went to an attorney and got a 501C3 and we started out as a different idea in the beginning but it became Ohio Flags of Honor November of 2005 and its been that way since.”

Ohio Flags of Honor will make 13 stops this year and Zimmer tells us why he chose to make a stop in Zanesville.

“It’s always been a friendly turnout, nice town. I like the fact that we are at the High School this year and hopefully we will be here for a while. We can get up more support flags of people who have helped us along the way and that’s the yellow flags with yellow on them and then the soldiers will be going up tonight at 6pm.”

The soldiers flags will be going up as part of the opening ceremony where every soldier will be honored including Zanesville natives listed below.
