Ohio State Highway Patrol Enforcing Labor Day Weekend Roadway Safety

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Another holiday weekend is coming up, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to drive safe.
With Labor Day and any big holiday weekend, more travelers will be on the roadway. There will be an increase of vehicles on the roadways on Friday and Monday. It is recommended that drivers watch their speed, wear seat belts, and give themselves enough to time to arrive to their destination.
“If you’re going to go somewhere, plan it ahead of time. Leave extra time to drive. Expect more traffic. That’ll lead to delays so a lot of people want to speed to make up that time. But just allow yourself more time, and avoid the whole speeding process,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Zanesville Post Commander, Lieutenant Russell Pasqualetti.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is enforcing their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign that ends on Labor Day. Last year in Ohio, there were 26 thousand OVI arrests, 13 thousand OVI related crashes, and almost 8 thousand injuries.
“Our troopers are very trained on how to look for impaired drivers. And that’s one of our main focuses, and we’re going to try to get as many OVI drivers off the road as possible,” said Lt. Pasqualetti.
Troopers will be out all weekend enforcing traffic safety. They will be looking for any violations like following too close, unsafe lane changes, and anything that could lead to a crash.
