ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The president of Ohio University stopped in Zanesville today to meet with businesses and visit the Zanesville Campus.

Duane Nellis, who has been president of the university since June of last year, had lunch with several business leaders in Zanesville. Nellis hopes to build a relationship with the businesses to help foster opportunities for students and the community.

“I’m here today to have a business roundtable discussion with some of the key business leaders as well as education leaders for Zanesville area and how we can better interface with them from Ohio University,” said Nellis. “Not only Ohio University Zanesville, but more broadly Ohio University and our entire system.”

Nellis said he discussed the need of businesses in the area. He said the meeting allowed him to see where OUZ students can be placed in the community.

“One of the things we want to do is starting this fall is to create more opportunities for internships with local businesses which creates potential pathways for students to start to do their educational experience at Ohio University Zanesville,” said Nellis. “But then also have a pathway as far as job opportunities for local businesses.”

Nellis will be visiting other campuses in the OU system to have roundtable discussions with businesses in those areas as well.
