Oil Well Fire South of Byesville
Four fire departments were called to the scene of an oil well fire Friday evening.
A viewer submitted photos of the fire. According to First Assistant Chief with the Pleasant City Fire Department Homer Gander, the fire broke out shortly before 8:30 on State Route 313 by State Route 821, just south of Byesville.
Gander says the tank full of oil exploded when it was struck by lightning. Pleasant City, Senecaville, Cumberland and Byesville Fire Departments responded to the scene. It took about two hours to get the blaze under control. Gander says they were able to stop the oil leak before it reached a nearby creek.
Windows were blown out in a home across the street, its front door was destroyed and there was some damage to the inside of the home. No one was home at the time of the fire.
