Olde Tyme Christmas in McConellsville
The Village of McConnelsville celebrated its Olde Tyme Christmas Celebration in downtown Saturday afternoon.
The event had carriage rides, pictures with santa, gingerbread house displays along with many other features. But for Charlie Eddleblute and his father-in-law Russ Downing, they really put the Old Tyme theme to the test by creating a Christmas tree made out of antique kerosene lanterns and copper piping, something that has been unique to the Village’s annual Christmas celebration.
"Well, i’ve bought some and basically go to antique malls and stuff like that and they’re all old ones but like i say now people are coming to me and giving them to me and telling me you know this was my moms, she carried it to the barn," says lantern tree creator Charlie Eddleblute.
Morgan County tourism coordinator Deana Clark says she is looking to attract more and more people to next year’s celebration by adding something that really promotes the Olde Tyme theme.
"We have discussed several different things. One being we would like to have a costume contest for the person that looks the most victorian," says Clark.
Clark says she was pleased with this year’s turnout and believes it’s a great way to help out the local economy. The Christmas Celebration happens the first Saturday each December.
