OMEGA’s Boost for Appalachian Economic Resilience

CAMBRIDGE, OH – The Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association held its latest executive board meeting on December 5th at the Cambridge Country Club.
The meeting focused on regional development initiatives. Dr. Vicki King-Maple, the Executive Director of OMEGA, featured as the guest speaker, shedding light on the vital Appalachian Community Grant Program.
“Governor DeWine made available 500 million dollars, and he made that available to the Appalachian region. We here at OMEGA are leading an application. Our application is called Destination Appalachia: a Pathway Through Prosperity.” OMEGA Executive Director, Dr. Vicki King-Maple said.
The OMEGA application showcases 41 diverse projects spanning 10 Appalachian counties and 26 communities. Despite the variety of projects, all share a single, unified vision aimed at promoting economic resiliency and strengthening community ties.
“One of the reasons that this particular grant program is so important is because it does identify the Appalachian region. All too often we tend to get overlooked because of the mass density, for example, the three C’s; Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinati and other major areas. Here out in the Appalachian, we have incredibly resilient people, we have incredibly visionary people, and we have some very important projects and processes that we need to complete in order to continue to build our economy.”
