One vehicle crash claims life of Zanesville man

Falls Township, OH- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash on CR 2 near Plantation Drive in Muskingum County. On August 29, 2026, at 2:25 a.m. troopers responded to a one vehicle crash involving a tree.

A 2021 Mercedes, driven by William L. Whyde III, age 24, of Dresden, Ohio was traveling northbound on CR 2 near Plantation Drive. Whyde’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. There were two passengers in the vehicle, Hallie D. Kimble, age 27, of Nashport, Ohio, and Kyler L. Hooper, age 25, of Zanesville, Ohio.

Kyler L. Hooper was pronounced deceased on scene by Muskingum County Coroner. Whyde and Kimble were transported to Genesis Hospital in Zanesville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Assisting on the scene was Falls Township EMS/Fire, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, and Genesis EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
