MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Power of the Purse is back with their 15th year which is presented by Zemba Companies.

Power of the Purse fundraiser is set up as a ladies night out event where about 100 purse’s are auctioned off that will include many incentives, silent auction, raffles and many other fundraising stations.

Marlene Henderson, Co-Chair for Power of the Purse, talked about how the fundraiser was known for collaborating with the Red Cross, but is no longer, but is very thankful for her team working to continue the event.

“So we decided to come back together and put it back on again for this year. Also, we’re going to do five scholarships, $1,000 dollar scholarships in Mick Amicone’s name for five high school senior students. So it’s exciting to be back. It’s exciting to get everywhere together again and it’s probably one of the most anticipated events every year because women just love it,” Henderson stated.

The money raised will also benefit local organizations like the Eastside Community Ministry, Fieldhouse Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of SEO, Christ Table and the Community Cares Fund at MCCF, which will go towards victims of the Masonic Temple Fire.

“The event has been going on for the last 15 years and we just wanted to continue giving back to our community and we’re able to do that by giving away to five non-profits each year as well as five different scholarships and it just really lets the ladies of the community come together at an event and we just have such a great time and everybody talks about it, and we just wanted to continue having that each year,” Heather Devoll, Co-Chair of Power of the Purse said.

The event is sold out, but they are still in need of more purse with an incentive. Residents can also donate gift cards or gently used purses for the famous Bag Lady Boulevard. She said this will allow residents to clean out their closets for a good cause.
