ZANESVILLE, OH – The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is predicting that Wednesday will be the busiest day for Thanksgiving travel.

Wednesday afternoon is suspected to be the time where the most motorists will be on the roads.

“We predict that Wednesday afternoon between 2 and 6PM will be the peak travel time here in Zanesville,” Sergeant Jeffrey Jirles with the Zanesville Post said. “Our troopers will be out on the interstate routes and we’re going to be looking for impaired driving, unsafe driving, and seatbelt violations.”

In total the Patrol made 278 arrests last Thanksgiving for impaired driving. Sgt. Jirles said there are two numbers you can call if you suspect someone is driving under the influence.

“It’s fairly common that we see distracted driving with cell phones,” Jirles said. “But we recommend calling 911 or #67 if you suspect someone might be impaired. Try to give as many details as you can on the vehicle when you talk to the responding officers.”

During last year’s Thanksgiving reporting period, the Patrol reported there were 18 fatal crashes that killed 19 people.  Of those 18 fatal crashes, 12 of them involved either drugs or alcohol.
