OUZ nursing class heading abroad

The 2016 nursing class at Ohio University Zanesville is in the midst of planning a once in a lifetime trip.

After attending the Ohio Nursing Conference in Cincinnati in 2013, the class decided it wanted to experience a study abroad trip. Class President, Jessica May, said the class wants to head to Costa Rica to experience providing health care in a different country.

“Ideally, we want to be able to experience other cultures, the health care system in other countries and just get diversity that we may not be able to experience here in Zanesville and be able to take with us when we go on in our careers and graduate,” May said.

As of now, the class does not have it’s placement in Costa Rica yet. But May said they will be assisting in either a clinic or doctor’s office type setting.

“I don’t know if there is a particular focus,” May said. “It’s just kind of whatever we can get our hands on and whatever we can experience is what we’re looking for.”

The trip is scheduled for over Christmas break. Eleven students and three staff members are going. And they are still raising funds through their own contributions and through the class’s gofundme page at http://www.gofundme.com/kzhrk8.
