OUZ students learning about different cultures

Students, faculty and community members alike are taking part in international studies week at Ohio University Zanesville.

Students had the opportunity to try foods from all around the world Tuesday. But the rest of the week is dedicated to teaching students and the community about foreign cultures and also teaching international faculty and students about american culture.

"We as the immigrant here in the U.S. We live in the community, so we are apart of that community, and that is another reason. My neighbor is an American, and I need to know my neighbor and my neighbor needs to know me," said Dr. Sheida Shirvani, a communications professor at OUZ.

Shirvani said studying other cultures is important because the world is becoming more connected.

"It is not just only immigrants coming here, we are also going over there as well, so that exchange causing we need to learn about them and as well they need to learn about us in order to be able to cooperate together, to educate each other, learn from each other and to be able to exist in this world," said Shirvani.

To help educate about the different places around the world professors and students are giving talks about living in different cultures all week.
