Patrol: Fatal Road Rage Accident Investigated

The Granville Post of the Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal road rage accident. It happened Monday on State Route 37, west of Granville at just before 4:00 pm. Troopers say a GMC Canyon was being driven by 58-year-old Larry Madden of Heath. Another vehicle was being driven by 38-year-old Michael Hayden of Newark. Both vehicles were traveling east on State Route 37. The Highway Patrol says Hayden passed on the left berm and Madden passed on the right berm. Both passed separate vehicles at a high rate of speed. Madden and Hayden then collided. Then Hayden struck a westbound commercial semi vehicle, which was driven by 65-year-old Richard Davis of Coshocton. Both Hayden and Davis’ vehicles became engulfed inflames. Hayden was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital. Madden was not injured. The crash remains under investigation. State Route 37 was closed until the scene could be cleaned-up.
