Pedestrian fatally struck on I-70 in Muskingum County

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–The State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 70 East  in Muskingum County.

The accident happened around 7:00 am Wednesday near mile post 146 in Hopewell Township.

According to the Zanesville Post, 53-year-old Robert Yates of Cambridge was a pedestrian in the left lane of I-70 when he was struck by a vehicle travelling east on I-70 which was driven by 42-year-old Rachel Bigham of Bremen, Ohio.

Authorities said Yates was deceased upon arrival of first responders.

I-70 eastbound was closed for several hours while emergency personnel assessed the scene.
