People Taking Advantage of Appliance Rebates
If you’re interested in taking part in the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, there’s still time, but Home Depot’s Appliance Department Supervisor, Greg Scuerman, says you’d better act fast.
"We’ve had a lot of customers come in. It’s not quite the Black Friday-Thanksgiving type of response, but close to it. It’s been really popular, " says Scuerman.
So far, more than seven million dollars of the program’s funds have been used. Scuerman says customers can only take part in the rebate as long as funds are available, and he expects most of that to be gone by the end of next week.
Yet, customers are running into some problems. Scuerman says about 50 percent of the people looking to take part in the program have no idea how it works. The biggest problem can be traced back to the program’s first step.
"You need to apply for the rebate before you buy your appliance. You need to have already done that step. Most of them came in asking for the discount. Some of them believe the discount is at the store level and that it would be taken off the price of the appliance. That’s not the case, " says Scuerman.

Customers also aren’t aware of the appliances available under the program. That’s why the Home Depot has made sure to clearly mark which appliance are energy-star rated and which ones aren’t.
