Perry Co. Woman Dies In Logan Shooting
The Logan County Sheriff is releasing more details about Monday’s deadly shooting where a man shot and killed his wife’s two sisters and his son before killing himself…one of the victims is from Perry County. Hocking County Sheriff Lanny North says it was a fight about food that was being fed to his terminally ill wife, 59-year-old Darlene Gilkey, which led to Monday’s deadly shooting near Logan. Paul Gilkey was unhappy that relatives had fed his wife tea and toast after he had already peeled an orange for her to eat. Deputies were called to the house around 5:00 pm for a possible hostage situation. Sheriff North says when they stormed the home hours later they found Mr. Gilkey dead on the front porch and the other bodies inside. One of Darlene Gilkey’s sisters, who was shot to death, is identified as 70-year-old Barbara Mohler of New Straitsville. A Kentucky man told the Columbus Dispatch the shooter was his 63-year-old brother and was stressed over caring for his terminally ill wife. The Newspaper says the wife’s son from another marriage escaped. The wife was not shot.
