Pet of the Week: Dashia

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A fun loving dog with a weakness for treats is ready to leave the Animal Shelter and join your family.
Meet Dashia. She is a six-year-old Coonhound Mix who has called the shelter home for months. Dashia completed the cell dog program which means she has basic obedience skills under her paws. The shelter’s assistant director said her new family will have to continue working on her skills and giving her a treat will make things easier.
“I would say at least two weeks. And sometimes it can take more just depending on the environment and how much consistency is there. It takes consistency with training,” said the shelter Assistant Director Charity Stevens. “She loves treats as you can see. It does help hold her focus. Eventually you wouldn’t have to use treats with her. She’s very gentle when she takes them.”
Stevens said Dashia will do good in a home with other dogs, but she likes cats a bit too much and shouldn’t be in a home with them.
“As you can see she’s very intense and likes learning new things and can focus. She does good with anybody. I think small kids should be fine. She just needs to learn appropriate behavior as far as not knocking them down just because of her sheer size,” said Stevens.
Dashia is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all shots. Her adoption fees have been reduced to $75. You will also need to pay $10.75 for her license.
