Pet of the Week: Mitzy

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The Animal Shelter Society has a new furry friend that is hoping to get your love this Valentine’s Day.
This is Mitzy, she is a domestic short-hair cat and is about one-year-old. She is up-to-date on her shots and has had her surgery. Her adoption fee is usually $60, but the shelter is having a $14 Valentine’s Day special.
The first 14 cats adopted will be only $14 starting Saturday, Feb. 10 until Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. Jody Murray, executive director of the Animal Shelter Society, said Mitzy is a friendly cat who gets along well with other cats, dogs and people.
“I think once she got in someone’s home and kinda learned their routine and that kinda thing she’d be a wonderful indoor cat,” Murray said.
You can even make a Valentine’s Day date out of visiting the shelter.
“Cats tend to live 15 to 18 years, so it’s a long-term commitment. We just encourage people if they’re thinking about that, bring your significant other in, spend some time, maybe go ahead and make that long-term decision,” Murray said.
The shelter is also still selling tickets for their annual fundraiser, Yappy Hour, coming up on March 15th at the Zanesville Country Club.
“Some very interesting auction items that we’ll be having that night. Tickets are available here at the shelter, they’re $35, you get a meal, a lot of good food from local chefs. Still looking for folks to come out and still looking for corporate sponsors,” Murray said.
To meet Mitzy or to purchase tickets to Yappy Hour, you can visit the Animal Shelter Society at 1430 Newark Road in Zanesville.
