Phillip Swinehart

Phillip Dean Swinehart passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026.
He was born to the late Angus and Agnes (Powell) Swinehart on December 26, 1938. He is preceded in death by his brother Larry and sisters Janet and Jane Gordon. Phil is survived by daughter, Abbey (Aaron) Lowery and grandchildren Amaris and Aiden; and dear friends Pam Sidwell and Jill Williams. Phil graduated from Glenford High School in 1956, he attended Miami University and received his BS in Education in 1961. Phil then proceeded to then earn his MS in 1966 at Ball State. Phil was a teacher, coach and administrator at Ansonia and New Lexington schools. He was a member of the New Lexington Elks (PER) and Eagles. Phil volunteered with the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and Red Cross. Phil also served on the New Lexington Athletic Hall of Fame committee. Phil was an avid Reds fan and enjoyed watching high school basketball state finals with his high school friends. His biggest joy was watching his grandchildren play sports. Amaris basketball at Indiana Tech and Aiden football at Ohio University. Phil will be missed by everyone as he always made you laugh and had great stories.
His daughter Abbey is grateful for all of the sacrifices he made to raise her and to have been able to take her to the Reds World Championship game #5 in 1975.
His body will be donated to the Wexner Center at The Ohio State University for research. There will be a celebration of life on April 25th, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the Elks Lodge, 109 South Main St. New Lexington, Ohio 43764.
