ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Today is the first day of deer hunting season, and Phillips Meat Processing is telling hunters if they bag a deer they can take it from here.

Phillips Meat Processing has already seen a steady amount of traffic with hunters bringing in deer. Phillips has been doing this since 1974, they are a family owned and operated business. Deer hunting season is one of their busiest times offering several services such as skinning, cutting, and freezing. Owner, Dale Phillips, said by going to their plant, you know that processing the deer meat is clean and done correctly.

“It’s done right. If there is something wrong with the deer, which our herd is extremely healthy this year, but we’ll do it right. If it’s not good, we won’t give it to you. We can identify that. Plus everything is cleaned, it’s done correctly,” he said.

To make deer hunting season a little more interesting and fun, Phillips created a deer week contest. Each day of the week they have a different winner of hunters. For example, the youngest hunter of the day, or biggest buck of the day. The winners receive free processing of an $80 value.

“It’s just something we came up with several years ago, each day has a different person. Youngest hunter, oldest hunter, biggest buck, biggest doe. That sort of thing, it’s kind of fun,” Phillips said.

Phillips Meat Processing is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, on Sundays they are open from noon to 5 p.m.
